General Info

  • The Talladega 21000 Half-Marathon benefitting the UAB Division of Urology, Department of Surgery - Prostate Cancer Research, Education, and Patient Screening will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2011. The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. CST and will have a 4 hour time limit.
  • The online registration fee for the half marathon is $55 by December 31st, $65 by March 29th, and $75 race weekend. For mail in registrations the fee is $60 by December 31st, $70 by March 29th, and $75 race weekend.
  • The 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk Honoring Survivors of Prostate Cancer will begin at 7:45 a.m.
  • The registration fee for the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk is $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.
  • If you can’t participate but would still like a shirt you can register for the “Race from Home” for a $25 fee. You must be able to pick up your race packet at Race Packet Pick Up – we will not mail race packets.
  • Registration is available online at Active.com or you can print out a form here. We HIGHLY encourage (and prefer) online registration!!
  • Online registration will close at midnight CST on March 29, 2011. All paper forms must be post marked by March 25, 2011 and received in our office no later than March 29, 2011. Otherwise, you will need to register at packet pick up or on race morning (cost will be $75).
  • You must be at least 12 years old on race day to participate in the half-marathon. There is no age limit on the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk.
  • If you are under 18 years of age, you must have a parent or legal guardian register for you in order to participate.
  • Participants have four hours, based on clock time, to complete the half-marathon course. You must be able to complete the half-marathon in this time frame.
  • A maximum of 1300 runners will be allowed to participate in the half-marathon so please register early! Once we reach 1300 participants we will close registration.
  • Baby joggers, in-line skates, bicycles, unauthorized vehicles and unregistered runners are prohibited on the course or on the Superspeedway. No pets or smoking on course PLEASE! Any participant breaking one of these rules will be removed from the course and the track area, disqualified and will not receive any of the finisher amenities.
  • Race numbers and timing devices are required to participate in the half-marathon. Race numbers are required to participate in the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk.

Participant Amenities

  • Registered participants in the half-marathon will receive a short sleeved technical shirt in their race packets. Registered participants in the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk will receive a short sleeved t-shirt. Prostate Cancer Survivors will receive a blue short sleeved technical shirt.
  • Talladega 21000 Half-Marathon finishers will receive a Talladega 21000 Finishers Medal.
  • The Post Race Party will take place beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Pit Garage located a short distance from the finish line. Jim ‘N Nicks Bar-B-Q (yummy!!) will provide food for the participants of the half-marathon and the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk (this is included in the cost of your registration). There will be plenty of cold drinks available as well. If you are interested in purchasing additional Jim ‘N Nicks meal tickets you can do so while registering on Active or when you fill out your paper registration form. Additional tickets, for your friends or family, will be $5 and all proceeds will be given to the UAB Division of Urology, Department of Surgery.

Gatorade/ Water Stations/ Course Support

  • Water and Gatorade stations will be available at Mile 2, Mile 4.5, Mile 6.5, Mile 7.5, Mile 9, Mile 10.5, and Mile 12. (These are approximate locations)
  • Portalets will be available approximately every 2 miles.

Medical Support

  • Medical personnel will be available at the finish line area and throughout the course.

Awards/Age Divisions - Half-Marathon

  • Awards will be given to the overall top three male and female and 1st place male and female in the Masters division. These will be based on Gun Time.
  • Age group awards will be given to the top three male and female in each of the following age group divisions: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & over - female, 70-75 – male, 75 & over – male. These will be based on clock time.
  • Awards will be presented at approximately 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m at the Post Race Party.
  • You must be present at the Awards Ceremony to receive your award. If you cannot be present we can mail your award for a $10 fee.
